Is a Circumcision Painless?

Circumcision Melbourne can usually be performed soon after birth or within the first month of life with minimal pain. A doctor uses an anesthetic to numb the area and performs the procedure while the baby is still awake.

Following surgery, the penis may appear red, swollen and bruised. It might also be sore when passing urine; this is perfectly normal and should not pose any issues.

Swelling

Everyone heals differently, so you may experience some swelling around the circumcision site for a few days. This is normal and will go away after 48 hours.

It is common to have some bloody drainage from the circumcision site. This may appear on your baby’s diaper or as a sticky film on his/her penis after each diaper change for 3 to 5 days after surgery.

It is essential to keep your baby’s penis and circumcision area as clean as possible during the first few days after birth. This can be accomplished with soapy water or diaper wipes, followed by a dab of petroleum jelly after each diaper change.

Baths can help relieve some of the pain and swelling. Be sure to use lukewarm water instead of hot, as this dilates blood vessels and increases swelling.

Bleeding

After a circumcision, there may be some bleeding around the site. This is an entirely normal part of healing and should resolve on its own or after several minutes of pressure.

Typically, wounds are covered with an ointment (such as Vaseline) and do not need pain medication. However, if your baby is crying a lot or has pain that is not getting better, contact his doctor for further evaluation.

Circumcision can be particularly painful the first few days after it is performed, when the area will be tender and red.

To reduce pain and prevent sticking of diapers to the incision line, apply a thin layer of ointment on both the incision line and head of penis. Doing this after each diaper change will reduce inflammation and help keep them away from sticking to your incision.

Prolonged bleeding after circumcision is uncommon and could be due to a blood disorder. By recognizing and managing these patients, we can ensure that our large-scale adult voluntary medical male circumcision program for partial HIV prevention is successful.

Pain

Circumcision can be a painful procedure. To ease the discomfort, pain medications may be administered both during and after the procedure. Frequently, anesthetics are used to numb the area.

Surgery can be incredibly painful for the child undergoing it. Infants may cry for hours, while older kids may experience a traumatic reaction to the procedure.

Before the procedure, numbing cream can be applied to the penis area or an injectable anesthetic can be used. This may provide temporary relief of pain for several hours following the operation.

Maintaining the penis area by keeping it clean and applying antibiotic ointment several times daily can help minimize irritation. The ring used to separate foreskin from penis typically falls off within 10-12 days; however, some boys and adults may take longer.

Circumcision is an integral part of raising a healthy male. It can reduce the risk of infections, cancer of the penis and sexually transmitted diseases in a male.

Infection

There’s a possibility that your son may develop an infection during the procedure. This can be a painful issue and should be treated with antibiotic creams.

Infections in the penis can be caused by extra skin that has been pulled back (malarial dermatitis) or by paraphimosis – when the foreskin fails to return to its usual position after being pulled back, leading to swelling and infection at the head of the penis.

Treatment for this can be achieved with topical antibiotics such as A&D ointment or White Petrolatum. You can also lubricate the head of the penis with sterile gauze to avoid sticking it to a diaper.

Infections are a relatively common complication after circumcision. Usually, they are mild and don’t lead to serious issues; however, if they do arise it is essential that you treat them promptly and avoid sexual activity until your wound has completely healed.
